(Ancient Greek: Πήγασος, Pégasos, Latin Pegasus) is one of the best known creatures in Greek mythology.

This winged horse is sired by Poseidon, born from Earth and the carrier of thunderbolts from Zeus. Horses

in general are a primary subject in hundereds of Garsot’s artworks. The Birth of Pegasus re-creates the power of natures imaginative ability to conjure the most famous of all mythological beasts. He is a winged divine stallion, pure white in color. He is a horse-god born when his mother was decapitated by Perseus. Greco-Roman poets write about his ascent to heaven after his birth and his allegiance to Zeus, king of the gods, who instructed him to bring lightning and thunder from Olympus. A Friend of the Muses, Pegasus is the creator of Hippocrene, the fountain on Mt. Helicon. He was captured by the Greek hero Bellerophon near the fountain Peirene with the help of Athena and Poseidon then ridden by Bellerophon in order to defeat the Chimera. Zeus transformed this fabled winged horse into the constellation Pegasus and placed him up in the sky to eternally shine upon us, to help navigate our seas and guide our safe journeys.
